"The original wax and mixed-media sculpture "Green Moon", combines coils of wax with the skin shed from a cobra over a hollow lunar ovoid form. The compelling green patina on the bronze together with the form inspired this title."M.W./2002 ARTIST STATEMENT:"The process of creating sculpture, like fossil and mineral life, are intrinsically related in their emerging forms and natural development. Rooted in my deep connection with Natural History, my sculptures unearths a personal language that I translate into bronze". The shapes in my sculpture echo megalithic structures and archeological treasures caught in the ambivalent, ethereal area between organic and mineral. Inspiration from distinctive geological rock formations as diverse as glacier carved valleys of the Rockies to volcanic lava flow of Kilauea to the diverse marine ecology and gentle landscape of Long Island contribute to the imagery in my sculpture." "Stones of Stenness" (standing stones) "Calanais" & "Ring of Brodgar" (stone circles) |
